Rosemeyer, in his 14th year at Gilman and sixth as head coach, led the Pirates to a 13-1 overall record, Cloverwood Conference title, and WIAA Division 7 state championship.
“I accept the Coach of the Year award on behalf of the entire team and coaching staff,” Rosemeyer said. “We’ve been blessed with good athletes the past couple years and this year was no different. We had 15 seniors with great leadership who took us to the championship.”
A Gilman native and 1987 graduate of Gilman, Rosemeyer played wingback and defensive back for Duane Jensen. Upon graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Clare in 1992, he was hired as an assistant coach at Chippewa Falls (Wis.) High School. After one year Rosemeyer accepted the head coaching position at Cornell (Wis.) High School, where he spent four seasons, before transitioning to an assistant coach at his prep alma mater in 1997. Prior to the 2005 season, Rosemeyer was promoted to head coach at Gilman. Rosemeyer is also the physical education and driver’s education teacher at Gilman.
Rosemeyer and his staff oversee a program of 37 varsity players. His coaching staff includes Derk Hauser, Ryan Lawcewicz, Kurt Rhyner, Tom Schradler, and Tom Tallier.
He and his wife, Cheryl, have two sons, Logan and Parker.
Rux and Waukesha West finished the 2010 season with an overall record of 13-1, a share of the Classic Eight Conference title, and WIAA Division 1 state championship.
"It is a great honor to be selected as the Coach of the Year on behalf of the Waukesha West football program,” Rux said. “I am fortunate to have the opportunity to coach with some of the best people I have ever known and this is as much their award as it is mine. This year was truly special because we had a group of very talented young men who played for each other, above anything else, and they did it with class. They earned the right to be called champions and they made it to the top of the mountain."
A native of Oconomowoc, Wis., Rux played football at Oconomowoc High School for his father and head coach Ed Rux. Upon graduating in 1983, he played at the University of Wisconsin-Madison for head coaches Dave McClain, Jim Hilles, and Don Morton. Rux began his coaching career as an assistant at the University of Utah in 1990. After two seasons he accepted the offensive coordinator position at Brighton (Utah) High School, prior to moving back to Wisconsin to coach at his alma mater, Oconomowoc. Following four seasons, Rux accepted his current position as head coach at Waukesha West in 2000. Rux is also a social studies teacher at Waukesha West.
Rux and his staff oversee a program of 115 players, including a varsity roster of 47 student-athletes. He is assisted by Terry Biel, Tony Bitto, John Burton, former Green Bay Packer Mark Chmura, Barrett Danz, Bryan Fox, Joe Hess, Justin Kasten, Jeff Kiser, Steve Radojicic, Derick Rosinsky, Derek Stebbins, Greg Thelen, and Jeff Trickey.
Rux and his wife, Colleen, have two sons, Connor and Kellen, and a daughter, Calista.
In recognition of the honor, the Packers will award both coaches a $2,000 donation to the school's football program. Rosemeyer and Rux will be presented with the award at the Packers’ season finale against the Chicago Bears on Jan. 2, and will be recognized on the Mike McCarthy Show, on Packers.com, and in the GameDay program.
This marks the 10th year both the Green Bay Packers and the WFCA have awarded high school football coaches with this honor. The WFCA has awarded the Coach of the Year since 1976, while the Packers presented the same award since 1998. Overall, the Green Bay Packers Coach of the Week program has honored 134 coaches and programs statewide since its inception.
