Siegert named Packers High School Coach of the Week

Posted Nov 13, 2012

Mark Siegert of Potosi High School has been named Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week, a program presented by the Wisconsin National Guard, the organization announced Tuesday.

Siegert’s Chieftains scored 23 points in the fourth quarter last Friday en route to a 30-20 win over Randolph in level four of the WIAA Football Playoffs. The victory improved Potosi’s record to 12-0 on the season and gave the Chieftains their first trip to compete for a WIAA Division 7 state championship in school history. The Chieftains will now travel to Camp Randall Stadium to face Glenwood City (10-2) this coming Thursday at 10:00 a.m.

“We’ve been blessed with a very special group of kids,” said Siegert. “Without cutting any corners, this group came into the season focused and ready to put their mark on our program. Last week our guys fought through adversity against a phenomenal Randolph team, when we gave up 14 points in the first quarter. Our group never stopped competing and never gave up hope.”

A Dubuque, Iowa native, Siegert is a 1988 graduate of Belmont High School where he played fullback and linebacker under coach Bob Edgington. After high school, he attended Loras College where he played linebacker for head coach Bob Bierie. Upon graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville as a transfer student in 1993, Siegert was hired as an assistant coach for Chilton High School. After one season, he accepted an assistant coaching position for the Benton-Scales Mound cooperative high school football program, where he spent three seasons. In 1998 Siegert worked as an assistant at Potosi before being promoted to head coach in 1999. Siegert is also the school’s athletic director and physical education teacher.

Siegert and his staff oversee a program of 46 players including a varsity roster of 25. His assistant coaching staff includes Chad Infield, Bud Johnson, Tony Liebfried, Ryan Siegert and Mike Uppena.

Siegert and his wife, Amy, have five children, Ally, Cy, Paige, Shae and Wynne.

This will be the final Coach of the Week award given out for the 2012 season.

The Packers and the Wisconsin National Guard will recognize one outstanding high school coach as their 'Coach of the Week' winner during the 2012 high school football season. Winners are awarded several items and privileges, including a $2,000 donation to the school's football program from the Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin National Guard and the NFL, as well as recognition of the award on Packers.com.
