Packers safety's HERO Foundation has raised thousands for disadvantaged kids and schools in Wisconsin

GREEN BAY – Packers safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix has been named the NFL Players Association Community MVP for Week 5.

Clinton-Dix is being recognized for the launch of his HERO Foundation to provide resources for economically disadvantaged kids and schools in Wisconsin.

The foundation hosted its first event this past week with an inaugural fundraiser, at which 10 Packers teammates joined Clinton-Dix. The initial goal is to provide books, technology tools and other resources for several at-risk elementary and high schools in Wisconsin.

Clinton-Dix’s HERO Foundation states as its mission to provide “economically challenged students with a voice of motivation, empowerment and encouragement.” HERO stands for “Hope, Education, Resources and Opportunity.”

The Pro Bowl safety will receive a contribution for his foundation from the NFLPA as its weekly winner, and he’ll be eligible for this year’s Byron “Whizzer” White Award – the players’ union’s highest community honor – along with the other 2017 Community MVPs.

The last Packers player to be named NFLPA Community MVP was running back Eddie Lacy, who coincidentally won the award in Week 5 of last season.

The Packers have had three winners of the Byron “Whizzer” White Award – Bart Starr in 1967, Willie Davis in 1968 and Reggie White in 1992.
