Lambeau Field to host 'Be The Match' marrow donor registry drive Jan. 6

Registry drive coordinated with help from the Packers Women's Association

Lambeau Field will host a “Be The Match” National Marrow Donor Program registry drive on Friday, Jan. 6, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the Lambeau Field Atrium.

The donor registry drive will be held to support former Packers player Mitchell Henry, who was recently diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. Henry’s best chance for a cure to his illness is through a bone marrow transplant, and donor drives like Friday’s event can increase the pool of donors in hopes of finding a match for Henry and those with similar illnesses.

To register as a potential donor, supporters must only fill out a registration form and have the inside of his or her cheek swabbed. Those eligible to register are individuals between the ages of 18 and 44 who are in general good health and would be willing to donate to any patient in need.

The drive is being coordinated in partnership with the Packers Women’s Association, with Packers player Jeff Janis’ wife, Alyssa, and coaching administrator Jeff Blasko’s wife, Katie, leading the effort to invite fans to become registered as donors.

Prospective donors that cannot attend Friday’s event are encouraged to visit http://join.bethematch.org/TouchDownMitch58 and a registration kit will be mailed within three business days.
