Posted Oct 5, 2017

Packers players Blake Martinez, Jake Ryan and Lucas Patrick will join fans to help raise money for the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation

The Green Bay Packers, along with the NFL and Spectrum Sports, will bring the Packers Vs. Cancer initiative to Appleton North High School on Friday, Oct. 6, when the Appleton North Lightning takes on the Appleton West Terrors.

The Packers Vs. Cancer effort, which is aimed at raising awareness of all cancers and raising funds to battle the disease, will run throughout the month of October.

Packers players Blake Martinez, Jake Ryan and Lucas Patrick will join fans at the game, which takes place at Appleton North at 5000 North Ballard Road in Appleton. The players will interact with the crowd and throw autographed foam footballs into the stands at the end of the first quarter.

The event will also feature rally towels, long-sleeved t-shirts and raffle tickets for autographed Packers items for sale, with 100 percent of the proceeds being donated to the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation. Raffle tickets are $1 apiece, rally towels are $5 and t-shirts are $10.

The game, which begins at 7 p.m., is a matchup between two local high school rivals: Appleton North, coached by Rob Salm, and Appleton West, coached by Brent Engen, and both teams are 5-2 on the season so far.

The game will air on Spectrum Sports as their game of the week with Matt Menzl and Dick Knapinski on the call in Appleton and Green Bay. The game is available on Channel 32 and in HD on Channel 1332 in Eastern Wisconsin, as well as streaming at www.myspectrumsports.com/wi/greenbay.

The Packers Vs. Cancer initiative also features the sale of a cancer awareness hat available for purchase at the Packers Pro Shop starting Oct. 10, with $5 from each hat sale going directly to the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation. The initiative will also take center stage when the Packers take on the New Orleans Saints on Oct. 22, with activities planned before and during the game to recognize cancer survivors and those who continue the battle against cancer.

Named for the legendary Packers coach, the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation is dedicated to winning the battle against cancer by funding advancements in cancer research and compassionate care.
