Flynn named 'NFC Offensive Player of the Week'

Posted Jan 4, 2012

Packers quarterback Matt Flynn's record-setting performance in just his second NFL start has earned him "NFC Offensive Player of the Week" honors for Week 17.

Flynn set Green Bay single-game franchise records for both passing yards (480) and touchdowns (six) in the Packers' 45-41 victory over the Detroit Lions on Jan. 1. Flynn led the offense on a game-winning 80-yard scoring drive in the final minutes, connecting with tight end Jermichael Finley on a 4-yard TD pass with 1:10 left for the game's final points.

Flynn completed 31 of 44 passes with one interception. His passer rating was 136.4.

Playing in place of Aaron Rodgers, who was given the game off to rest for the playoffs, Flynn gave Green Bay quarterbacks their fourth weekly NFC honor for 2011. Rodgers won it three times, in Week 1 (vs. New Orleans), Week 4 (vs. Denver) and Week 9 (at San Diego).

The Packers finished the regular season with seven of the weekly NFC awards. In addition to the quarterbacks, kicker Mason Crosby won "NFC Special Teams Player of the Week" twice (Week 5 at Atlanta, Week 7 at Minnesota), and punter Tim Masthay won that award once (Week 13 at N.Y. Giants).
