Did you notice?
The Packers took the field Tuesday morning for their final training camp practice of the summer open to the public.

LB Brandon Chillar was back on the field after missing the last two days with a lower back injury and returned to the No. 1 WLB spot.

DE Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila did not practice after being on the field on Sunday and Monday. Head Coach Mike McCarthy said Gbaja-Biamila’s knee flared up following Monday’s practice.

WR Donald Driver displayed his kicking leg after dropping a pass from QB Matt Flynn in the end zone during red-zone work. As the ball hit the ground, Driver booted the ball with his left foot about 30 yards in the air, earning a penalty flag.

Offensive play of the day
Rookie TE Jermichael Finley caught everything thrown to him Tuesday morning, including a nice reception in the front of the end zone in red-zone work when he grabbed a Brian Brohm pass away from CB Will Blackmon for the score.

Defensive play of the day
Blackmon bounced back to pick off a Brohm pass during 7-on-7 drills when he jumped a pass intended for rookie WR Jordy Nelson for the interception.

Injury/participation update
In addition to Gbaja-Biamila, DE Michael Montgomery (groin) and CB Al Harris (unspecified) were new to the absentee list on Tuesday.

The status of Gbaja-Biamila and Montgomery for Thursday night’s game is not known at this point.

Remaining out were C Scott Wells (trunk), G Josh Sitton (knee), LB A.J. Hawk (chest), S Atari Bigby (ankle), CB Charles Woodson (knee), S Charlie Peprah (hamstring), DT Ryan Pickett (hamstring) and WR James Jones (knee).

Did you notice?
The ball security drills have gotten more spirited of late, with the coaches having two players attacking each ball carrier to try to strip the ball out. The players really hoot and holler if they are able to get a ball out.

LB Desmond Bishop continued to take snaps at outside linebacker alongside Abdul Hodge in the middle. With both Bishop and Hodge playing primarily middle linebacker, if one of them can also contribute on the outside, there's a better chance both can make the team.

Backup QBs Brian Brohm and Matt Flynn were 1-for-2 in the 2-minute drill. Brohm drove his unit 60 yards for a touchdown, scoring on a last-play heave to Taj Smith from 26 yards away. Flynn's group wasn't able to pick up a first down, allowing a sack before a fourth-down pass to WR Johnny Quinn was broken up along the sideline by CB Scorpio Babers.

During the final special teams period, CB Will Blackmon and WR Jordy Nelson dropped back as the No. 1 kickoff return tandem.

Offensive play of the day
Smith's catch to close out the first 2-minute drill was a heck of a play. With 9 seconds on the clock, Brohm scrambled to his right and threw back across the field toward the end zone. Smith came back to the ball and made a diving catch just across the goal line.

Defensive play of the day
For the most part, the defense had a good day facing mostly the backup QBs. Safeties Aaron Rouse and Nick Collins both picked off passes in the end zone during red-zone work, and Hodge intercepted Flynn on a short throw over the middle.

Injury/participation update
DE Cullen Jenkins and DT Johnny Jolly returned to practice.

Sitting out were C Scott Wells (trunk), G Josh Sitton (knee), LB A.J. Hawk (chest), LB Brandon Chillar (back), S Atari Bigby (ankle), CB Charles Woodson (knee), S Charlie Peprah (hamstring), DT Ryan Pickett (hamstring) and WR James Jones (knee).

Did you notice?
RB Ryan Grant participated in the opening jog-through portion of practice but was limited in team periods for the remainder of the workout.

With C Scott Wells (trunk) and G Josh Sitton (knee) out, the interior of the No. 1 offensive line was the same as it was in Denver when Sitton went out of the game, with Jason Spitz at center, Daryn Colledge at left guard and Tony Moll at right guard.

With LBs A.J. Hawk (chest) and Brandon Chillar (back) out, veteran Tracy White was the third LB in the base defense.

Offensive play of the day
A couple of one-handed catches are worth mentioning. The first was by WR Taj Smith on a deep ball from QB Brian Brohm. Smith dove with one arm outstretched and deflected the ball back into his body, hauling it in as he hit the ground for a big gain.

The other was on the final play of practice, as TE Joey Haynos fended off tight coverage from LB Desmond Bishop on a deep ball over the middle from QB Matt Flynn. Haynos braced his left arm against Bishop and reached out with his right arm to snag the pass, barely breaking stride.

Defensive play of the day
Rookie LB Danny Lansanah made a nice read of a Flynn pass and jumped up to snare it for an interception. Rookie CB Pat Lee also had a nice break-up along the sideline as Flynn rolled right and tried to hit WR Johnny Quinn cutting through.

Injury/participation update
In addition to Grant, DE Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila and RB DeShawn Wynn returned to practice.

In addition to Wells, Sitton, Hawk and Chillar, others sitting out included S Atari Bigby (ankle), CB Charles Woodson (knee bruise), S Charlie Peprah (hamstring), DE Cullen Jenkins (minor injuries), DT Ryan Pickett (hamstring), WR James Jones (knee sprain), DT Justin Harrell (back) and DT Johnny Jolly (hip flexor).

Of the injured players, Coach McCarthy said Chillar and Jenkins have very minor injuries and could return to practice tomorrow. Bigby won't play this week against Tennessee but likely could if it were the regular season. Woodson's knee is only bruised and he isn't likely to play this week.

Sitton and Jones are week-to-week and will not play this week. Same for Wells and Hawk, who are making good progress in their rehab but won't play this week. The target for all four of those players, along with Pickett, is to have them ready for the season opener against Minnesota.

Notes From Wednesday's Practice

Did you notice?
T Chad Clifton returned to practice on Wednesday after missing the last two days. The No. 1 offensive line was Clifton at LT, Daryn Colledge at LG, Jason Spitz at C, Josh Sitton at RG and Mark Tauscher at RT.

The Packers worked with crowd noise piped in during most of the team periods.

Head Coach Mike McCarthy said the starters would play the first half at Denver and possibly play some at the beginning of the third quarter.

Offensive play of the day
During red-zone work, rookie TE Jermichael Finley made a leaping grab for a TD over LB Brandon Chillar on a pass from QB Matt Flynn.

Defensive play of the day
S Aaron Rouse jumped a slant pass to pick off a throw by QB Aaron Rodgers intended for WR Donald Driver.

Injury/participation update
DE Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila and CBs Al Harris and Joe Porter returned to the field.

McCarthy said he wasn’t sure at this point if Gbaja-Biamila would play in Friday’s game at Denver.

Players not participating were LB A.J. Hawk (chest), S Scott Wells (trunk), DTs Ryan Pickett (hamstring), Justin Harrell (back) and Daniel Muir (groin), RBs Ryan Grant (hamstring) and DeShawn Wynn (ankle) and S Charlie Peprah (hamstring).

McCarthy said of the players that did not practice Wednesday, Muir was likely the only one that would have a chance to play on Friday.

Did you notice?
With T Chad Clifton and C Scott Wells still out, the offensive line continued shuffling players around with the first unit. Daryn Colledge and Allen Barbre both played LG and LT, while Tony Moll also played some LT and took a few snaps at RT to give Mark Tauscher a breather.

A new player, DT Rodney Allen, was signed by the team and was at practice. Allen previously played in the Indoor Football League for Odessa (Texas). He was wearing No. 67. TE Evan Moore was placed on injured reserve to make room on the roster for Allen.

The QBs were doing their long throws into the elevated hoop apparatus again, and Aaron Rodgers dropped one in from about 50 yards away. Two throws later, Matt Flynn nearly got one in, but it hit both sides of the hoop's rim and bounced away.

One of the more animiated scuffles of camp broke out between RB Brandon Jackson and S Aaron Rouse. The pushing and shoving brought several players around, and DE Cullen Jenkins then got into it with Jackson as well.

The big hit of camp thus far may have been delivered by LB Abdul Hodge. During a team drill on a running play, FB Ryan Powdrell tried to take on Hodge in the hole, and Hodge blew him backwards and onto the ground. The defensive players let out several whoops and hollers on that one.

For the second straight day, former GM Ron Wolf was at practice. On Tuesday, he spent part of the workout watching with his son Eliot, an assistant director of pro personnel.

Offensive play of the day
During red-zone work, WR Ruvell Martin ran a fade route to the corner of the end zone and caught a well-placed Rodgers throw over CB Pat Lee.

Defensive play of the day
In one of the last team periods of practice, CB Will Blackmon stepped in front of a Brian Brohm pass and picked it off. Blackmon took off running with a fair amount of open field ahead of him.

Injury/participation update
TE Tory Humphrey and DT Daniel Muir returned to practice.

RBs Ryan Grant (hamstring) and DeShawn Wynn (ankle) were out on the field for the jog-through portion of practice but then went into the Don Hutson Center for continued rehab.

In addition to Wells (trunk) and Clifton (sore), remaining out were S Charlie Peprah (hamstring), CBs Al Harris (unspecified) and Joe Porter (personal), LB A.J. Hawk (chest), DTs Ryan Pickett (hamstring) and Justin Harrell (back) and DE Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila (knee).
