PACKERS QB BRETT FAVRE NAMED NFC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK FOR WEEK 9
 |
| Brett Favre |
Quarterback Brett Favre of the Green Bay Packers is the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for games played the ninth week (October 26-27) of the 1997 season, the NFL announced today.
Favre completed 23 of 34 attempts for 239 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions for a 117.2 passer rating in the Packers' 28-10 road victory over the New England Patriots. The Patriots had won eight straight at home, including postseason.
With Green Bay leading 14-10 in the third quarter, Favre led the Packers on a 99-yard drive that culminated in a 20-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Robert Brooks for Favre's final TD pass of the game.
"I felt like it was my best performance of the year," said Favre. "We just made plays. It's (the 99-yard drive) something we'll talk about for a long time. It definitely could be the turning point of our season and we hope it is." In his seventh season out of Southern Mississippi, this is Favre's fifth Player of the Week award.
