PACKERS COMPLETE PLANS FOR HISTORIC SHAREHOLDERS' MEETING IN LAMBEAU FIELD; ATTENDANCE - MORE THAN 20,000 - WOULD SET NATIONAL MARK

posted 6/24/98

The Green Bay Packers have completed plans for their historic, 1998 shareholders' meeting, one that will be the largest such conclave in the nation's corporate annals.

The team's annual meeting will be held in Lambeau Field - for the first time in that sprawling setting - on Wednesday morning, July 8.

The change in venue from the customary hotel meeting room to the storied stadium was necessitated when the organization acquired more than 100,000 new shareholders through a nationwide stock sale, launched in November and concluded March 16, that enhanced the club's capital reserves by more than $24 million.

Based on replies received to date, more than 20,000 people - the entire list of shareholders now numbers approximately 109,000 - are likely to be in attendance when Packers President Bob Harlan calls the meeting to order at 10 a.m.

The final total will establish a new attendance record for the organization - whose previous mark was set at the 1997 meeting, held at Green Bay's Midway Motor Lodge and attended by more than 500 shareholders - as well as a national record for shareholder meetings.

Harlan will conduct the meeting from a stage located at the 50-yard line on the stadium's playing field and facing the east stands. He will be joined on the stage by members of the club's Executive Committee and Executive Vice President/General Manager Ron Wolf, Vice President of Administration/Chief Financial Officer Michael R. Reinfeldt, Assistant Vice President/General Counsel Lance Lopes and committee chairmen who will be making presentations.

Major presentations on the agenda will include the financial report from Treasurer John R. Underwood, the annual "state of the team" report from Wolf and election of 15 directors for a three-year term. The presentations will be shown on the stadium scoreboards as they are being made.

Shareholders will be seated in the stadium stands and will have access to microphones, to be located at the bottom of each stairway, thus providing them with the opportunity to ask questions during the question-and-answer period which will be held following the completion of all committee reports. Handicapped persons will be seated on the field on the east sideline.

The meeting will be held, rain or shine, Harlan said. Access to the stadium, beginning when the gates open at 9 a.m., will be via the east side gates only - with admission by shareholder ticket or proxy card only. Parking lot gates will be open at 8 a.m. and handicapped parking will be available off Lombardi Avenue.

The Packers' annual highlights video, "The Excellence Continues," will be shown on the stadium scoreboards prior to the meeting, starting at 9:35 a.m.

Official shareholders' merchandise will be sold only inside the stadium, with stadium concession stands scheduled to open an hour prior to the meeting. Since the occasion is a business meeting, no alcohol will be sold.

No vending will be permitted on the stadium parking lot, according to Jerry Parins, the Packers' corporate security officer, who also announced that no video cameras will be allowed in the stadium during the meeting. The first aid room will be staffed in the event of any health emergencies, he said.
