EAGLES, PEDERSON AGREE TO CONTRACT
Philadelphia Eagles Story

PHILADELPHIA -- It didn't take long for Eagles coach to announce his intentions for new quarterback Doug Pederson, who signed a three-year contract with the Eagles on Wednesday:
"He's our starting quarterback," said Reid of Pederson, who has never started an NFL game in his six seasons in the league. "I think Doug will come here and win games for us. He's very intelligent and he has the physical ability to run and throw the ball. He has been able to learn this offense the last three years. This is a big day for Doug Pederson."
Indeed it was. Pederson had thrown just 8 NFL passes until last season, when he completed 14 of 24 passes for the Packers. Pederson, who is 6 feet 3, 216 pounds, had his best game in a blowout loss to the Vikings when he completed 10 of 16 passes for 103 yards and two touchdowns before breaking his jaw.
While Pederson's career statistics are far from impressive, Reid is solidly in his corner. Reid was the quarterbacks coach in Green Bay and worked closely with Pederson.
"I know Doug Pederson and I know what he can do," said Reid.
Said Pederson: "My best days are ahead of me. I've been waiting for this opportunity and now I've got it."
Reid said the decision to sign Pederson would not impact the Eagles' draft intentions, and he did not rule out the possibility the team would draft a quarterback high on April 17. Reid was not asked at a Veterans Stadium press conference about the status of holdovers Koy Detmer, Rodney Peete and Bobby Hoying.
All that is certain is the heretofore unknown Doug Pederson is the new starting quarterback for the Eagles.
