MINICAMP UPDATE
posted 03/31/99
Afternoon Update - Wednesday, March 31
A second, slightly shorter workout was held inside the Don Hutson Center this afternoon to conclude the first day of mini-camp. Roughly half the team followed the one hour, twenty-minute practice with a weightlifting session at the temporary weight room setup inside the Don Hutson Center.
Also at the end of practice, three of the team's four quarterbacks (Ronnie McAda is not present at this camp) took turns attempting to throw a football into a standing garbage can. Positioned at the 40-yard line, Brett Favre, Rick Mirer and Matt Hasselbeck aimed at the two rubber cans, placed just inside the goal line on each side of the end zone. Despite as many as eight to 10 throws each, none was successful in their tries, though Favre did once hit the front of the can.
Later, inside the team's newly-expanded locker room, head coach Ray Rhodes took time to speak to several players individually, including a lengthy discussion with veteran defensive tackle Santana Dotson.
Additionally, this afternoon vice president-general counsel Lance Lopes said that starting fullback William Henderson has agreed to a new contract. Henderson continues to take part in the current mini-camp under a workout waiver, which offers him injury protection.
The mini-camp will continue Thursday morning, April 1, with both a morning and afternoon practice, before wrapping up on Friday.
