MINICAMP UPDATE

posted 04/24/99

Afternoon Update « Saturday, April 24

A slightly larger crowd than the morning, about 700 people, viewed this afternoon's fourth workout of the Packers' post-draft mini-camp. It lasted one hour and 55 minutes under beautiful, sunny skies.

Sixth-round draft pick Dee Miller of Ohio State continues to catch the eye. He made two impressive catches of Brett Favre passes, one each over starting cornerbacks Tyrone Williams and Craig Newsome.

The defense dominated the final, "team" portion of the practice. Williams nearly picked off a Matt Hasselbeck pass intended for Zola Davis and first-round draft choice Antuan Edwards snuffed out a Favre aerial, also intended for Davis.

Defensive end Keith McKenzie and tight end Rod Lewis scuffled briefly near the end of the workout.

This afternoon, two different players « Jahine Arnold and DeMonn Parker « caught punts during a mid-practice special teams period.

Rookie cornerback Mike McKenzie sat out the practice after tweaking his hamstring on Friday.
