MINICAMP UPDATE

Daily Update - Wednesday, June 2

The Packers' third and final mini-camp of 1999 opened Wednesday with a full two-hour practice, forced inside the Don Hutson Center due to heavy early-morning rains. Following practice, the entire team (by position) performed a series of conditioning drills under the watchful eye of Head Coach Ray Rhodes.

"It's good to have all of the guys back and get a chance to look at them" Rhodes said afterwards. "As far as the running after practice, you're going to see a lot of that this year. That's the time you want to push guys farther is after practice."

The highlight of the practice was when QB Brett Favre hit WR Jahine Arnold, streaking down the right sideline, with a 50-plus yard bomb.

A number of players returning from injuries practiced on at least a limited basis, including WR Bill Schroeder (collarbone), WR Robert Brooks (back surgery), WR Tyrone Goodson (knee), C Frank Winters, OT John Michels (knee), S LeRoy Butler (ankle surgery) and LB Antonio London (knee). LB Brian Williams (knee scope) sat out the workout.

Meanwhile, the team's top two draft choices, cornerbacks Antuan Edwards and Fred Vinson, both watched from the sidelines in sweat clothes. Rhodes indicated that Vinson (foot surgery) should begin running in two to three weeks, while Edwards (turf toe surgery) is a little further out in his rehab, though still on schedule to return to action by the start of training camp.

Rookies Dee Miller and Andre Dixon were not able to attend this camp due to an NFL rule and the fact that their respective universities, Ohio State and Northeastern, still have classes on-going. LB Daryl Carter (funeral) missed today's practice, but is expected back at practice on Thursday.

Members of the University of Wisconsin coaching staff, in town for the seventh annual Packer-Badger Steak Fry Wednesday night at Lambeau Field, attended the opening practice. (Photo Gallery).
