PACKERS' WATSON, McADA SEE ACTION IN BERLIN'S SURPRISE WIN OVER SCOTLAND
posted 06/03/99
Green Bay Packers running back Edwin Watson and quarterback Ronnie McAda both saw action in the Berlin Thunder's 28-10 upset win over the league-leading Scottish Claymores last weekend. After starting the season with four straight losses, the Thunder has turned the tide to win their last three games.
Watson, starting his seventh game of the season, led Berlin in rushing with 15 carries for 58 yards. He is the Thunder's leading rusher with 93 carries for 411 yards, including 3 touchdowns, and ranks fifth in the league overall. On the receiving end, Watson is sixth on the team with 7 catches for 64 yards.
McAda, seeing action in his second game of the season since being re-allocated to Berlin two weeks ago, played in the Thunder's final series. Berlin ran five rushing plays before McAda took a knee as time ran out.
Packers cornerback Denorse Mosley had 1 tackle in his fourth start of the year in the Scottish Claymores' 28-10 loss to Berlin. This season, Mosley leads the Claymores in passes defensed with 6 and is second in interceptions with 2. He also has seen action on special teams with 4 kickoff returns for 35 yards.
Looking ahead to Week 8: Three weeks remain in the NFL Europe season and teams are positioning themselves for a run at World Bowl '99. Two teams with identical records of 3-4, the Berlin Thunder and the defending champion Rhein Fire, face off on Saturday, June 5, in Berlin. A matchup of two of the league's top teams highlights the weekend action. The league-leader Barcelona Dragons (5-2), winners of the 1997 World Bowl, play host to the 1996 champions, the Scottish Claymores (4-3), on Sunday.
