MINICAMP UPDATE
posted 06/04/99
Daily Update - Friday, June 4
Wrapping up the first week of their final mini-camp, the Packers went outside on Friday for the first time. The two-hour, 10-minute practice was held on the newer Ray Nitschke Field in front of roughly 300 appreciative fans. And for the third straight day, the workout was followed by a series on conditioning drills, designed to improve the team's overall stamina.
Though overcast throughout the practice, the rain held off until after the workout's completion.
Third-round draft choice Cletidus Hunt again was impressive in the one-on-one pass-rush drills held near the end of practice, consistently showing exceptional quickness and often beating his man.
Wide receiver Antonio Freeman, after first appearing at the team's Lambeau Field facilities on Thursday, was a visitor to the practice. Freeman later addressed the Wisconsin sports media on the practice field.
The team's four quarterbacks in attendance - Brett Favre, Rick Mirer, Matt Hasselbeck and Aaron Brooks - after practice once again took turns attempting to throw the football into standing rubber garbage cans roughly 40 yards away. Hasselbeck caused a stir when one of his first throws hit the front rim of the can, knocking it over.
Wide receiver Bill Schroeder was not in attendance today, having been excused to honor a previous commitment.
The second week of practice will start up Monday with a workout at 10:10 a.m., and will continue through Thursday, June 10.
