MINICAMP UPDATE

posted 06/09/99

Daily Update - Wednesday, June 9

A crisp, short practice of one hour, 35 minutes, was the order of the day for the Packers following Wednesday morning's "Breakfast of Champions" at St. Norbert College. And, for the first time during the team's third and final mini-camp, there were no post-practice conditioning drills.

Defensive backs Darren Sharper and Tyrone Williams made the eye-catching plays of the day, Sharper intercepting Brett Favre and Williams picking off No. 3 quarterback Matt Hasselbeck.

Rookie cornerback Mike McKenzie did not practice on Wednesday due to the broken bone on the top of his right hand, after he did practice Tuesday with the hand casted.

Also missing today was strong safety LeRoy Butler, who returned to his Jacksonville, Fla., home for a family commitment.

Once again, the team worked on the shotgun formation during practice, this time during 7-on-7 passing drills.

The mini-camp wraps up on Thursday with a single practice at 10:10 a.m., after which the team's players are not due back until July 25. The coaching staff also will take its vacation time.
