posted 07/19/99

The Green Bay Packers have signed linebacker Jeremy Beutler of Ohio University as an undrafted free agent, Executive Vice President/General Manager Ron Wolf announced today.

A two-year starter as a defensive end, the 6-3, 247-pound Beutler (the name is pronounced "BEAUT-ler") made 35 tackles during the 1998 season, posting 5 stops for 28 yards in losses and 2 sacks for a minus-21 yards. He also recovered one fumble. In 1997, his first year as a starter, he registered 28 tackles, along with one tackle for a one-yard loss. Beutler earlier played linebacker in 1995 and was employed as a blocking tight end and special teams player in 1996, but did not catch a pass.

A native of Toledo, Ohio, where he earned first-team, all-area and all-city honors at St. Francis High School, he has been assigned jersey number 69.

'New' Name: Drafted by Green Bay as De'Mond Parker, a name he on draft day requested be changed to DeMonn, the former University of Oklahoma running back has now requested that he henceforth be listed on the Packers' official roster as De'Mond Parker, the first name by which he was identified in the University's media guide while playing for the Sooners. Parker, a fifth-round draft selection, has promised that this is the last time he will ask to change his name.
