The Green Bay Packers have signed rookie defensive lineman Cletidus Hunt of Kentucky State, their second selection in the third round of this year's National Football League draft, to a multiyear contract, Executive Vice President/General Manager Ron Wolf announced today.
The 6-4, 295-pound Hunt, playing primarily at end, enjoyed an outstanding senior season in 1998, posting 66 tackles, 10 quarterback sacks and 28 stops behind the line of scrimmage while earning American Football Coaches Association Division II All-America honors. A high-intensity player, he also intercepted one pass and deflected five others.
Hunt, whose first name is pronounced "CLEE-dee-us," closed out his two-year Kentucky State tenure with 94 total tackles (56 solo), including 12 quarterback sacks and 36 for loss. He also forced 2 fumbles and was credited with 5 passes defensed.
He earlier was a two-year letter winner at North West Mississippi Junior College and was named Mississippi JUCO "Defensive Player of the Year' as a sophomore.
Hunt is the tenth of the Packers' twelve 1999 draft selections to be signed.
