The 6-0, 235-pound Davis, a free agent entering his seventh NFL season, started 46 of a possible 47 games at right outside linebacker for the Chiefs over the past three seasons. Starting all 16 games in 1998 for the first time in his career, the former University of Utah athlete ranked fourth on the team in tackles for the second year in a row with 117, including 79 solo stops, a total which ranked fourth on the Kansas City defensive unit. Along the way, Davis had 8 games with 8 or more tackles, including a season-high 13, plus an interception, at Seattle November 8. Signed by the Chiefs in 1994 as a free agent coming out of Utah, Davis has been the team's leading tackler over the past four seasons (1995-98) with 420 stops - an average of 105 per season. His six-year totals, in addition to the 420 tackles, include 78 games played, (with 49 starts), 12.5 quarterback sacks, 5 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, 24 passes defensed and 38 special teams tackles. Davis has been assigned jersey number 50. He and all Packers veterans reporting today were scheduled to undergo physical examinations this afternoon and later check in at the team's St. Norbert College base for dinner and the annual team orientation meeting, at which Head Coach Ray Rhodes will outline rules and goals for the 1999 season. The team's full-squad, two-a-day practice regimen will begin Friday. |
