PACKERS SIGN LINEBACKER LOUIS ADAMS, PUT LB DARYL CARTER ON WAIVERS

posted 07/31/99

The Green Bay Packers have signed linebacker Louis Adams as a free agent, Executive Vice President/General Manager Ron Wolf announced today.

The 6-1-1/2, 244-pound Adams, a three-year starter at Oklahoma State as a collegian, comes to the Packers fresh from splitting the 1999 NFL Europe season between the Rhein Fire and the Amsterdam Admirals. As an Admiral, he posted 8 tackles as a linebacker, 7 of them unassisted. He also registered 4 special teams tackles.

Adams spent the 1997 season on Tennessee's practice squad, signing on with the Oilers August 27, 1997. He was signed to Tennessee's active roster February 26, 1998, and subsequently placed on waivers August 17, 1998, following the Oilers' second preseason game.

A 25-year-old native of Pontiac, Mich., Adams was an all-state selection as a running back at Pontiac Central High School, rushing for 1,457 yards and scoring 17 touchdowns as a senior.

Adams, who joined the Packers on the practice field this morning, has been assigned jersey number 65, formerly worn by linebacker Deon Humphrey, who has been reassigned to jersey number 59.

Linebacker Daryl Carter was placed on waivers to make room for Adams on the Packers' current, 82-player in-camp roster, scheduled to be increased by one with the arrival of quarterback Brett Favre on the practice field Sunday morning.

Fullback Chris Gall, acquired via waivers from the Indianapolis Colts Friday, will make his practice field debut this afternoon.
