OVER 48,000 TICKETS SOLD FOR PACKERS FAMILY NIGHT/SCRIMMAGE; FORMAT SET
posted 08/04/99
More than 48,000 tickets now have been sold for "Packers Family Night, presented by Fox 11," to be staged in Lambeau Field Saturday night (August 7) with an intrasquad scrimmage as the centerpiece.
The format for the scrimmage and the following program also has been finalized, Jeff Cieply, the Packers' marketing director, announced in reporting the latest ticket sales figure.
Head Coach Ray Rhodes, who will be formally putting his initial Packers team on display for the first time, and his staff have structured a 48-play scrimmage. It will be preceded by routine practice procedures, including calisthenics, stretching and a 7-on-7 drill.
The proceedings, to be televised "live" by originating station WLUK-TV, will begin at 7:30. The broadcast also will be carried in Milwaukee on WITI-TV, in Madison on WMSN-TV, in Wausau on WAOW-TV and in La Crosse on WLAX-TV.
Immediately after the scrimmage, Coach Rhodes will be available on the field in a question-answer session to be emceed by Sports Director Drew Smith of WLUK-TV, to be followed by a second Q.-and-A. with Executive Vice President/General Manager Ron Wolf.
Next on the agenda will be a "first" in Packers annals - a practice jersey giveaway. It will involve 20 players literally giving the "shirts'' off their backs to as many fortunate fans, whose seat numbers will be drawn at random. Fans thus are encouraged to retain their ticket stubs In order to claim a jersey prize, if a winner.
The winners' names will be announced over the stadium's public address system and each will be asked to descend to the first row of the stands to collect their prizes. The jerseys to be distributed will include those of quarterback Brett Favre and tight end Mark Chmura, among others.
The program then will be climaxed by a fireworks display.
Because the fireworks will be shot off in the northwest corner the Lambeau Field parking lot (at the corner of Ridge Road and Lombardi Avenue), that area will be restricted Saturday night and fans will need to park in other areas.
The parking lot will open at 4:30 and stadium gates at 6 p.m. In keeping with long-established stadium policy, no carry-ins will be permitted.
The Packer Pro Shop will be open from 10 a.m. until the time of the scrimmage.
Reserved tickets, priced at $6, are available at the Packers ticket office, at the Brown County Arena ticket office and at all Ticket Star outlets. Tickets also can be purchased over the telephone by calling 920/494-3401 in Green Bay, or toll free, 800/895-0071 from any other location (there is an additional $4 handling charge on the total order for all phone sales).
