| PACKERS ACQUIRE OFFENSIVE TACKLE JAMIE WILSON FROM CAROLINA
posted 08/05/99
The Green Bay Packers have acquired offensive tackle Jamie Wilson from the Carolina Panthers for an undisclosed, future draft choice, Executive Vice President/General Manager Ron Wolf announced today. A third-year pro, the 6-foot-6, 308-pound Wilson was one of two undrafted free agents to make the Panthers' 53-player active roster in 1997, after earning All-Southern Conference honors as a member of Marshall University's offensive line in 1996. Inactive for every game except Carolina's season finale against St. Louis as a rookie, Wilson impressed the Panthers' offensive coaches during the team's 1998 training camp before suffering a neck injury in a preseason game (August 30) and being placed on injured reserve for the regular season. A 44-game starter as a collegian, Wilson helped the Thundering Herd win the Division 1-AA championship as a senior, starting 15 games for a team that averaged 42 points and 450 yards per game. Wilson, assigned jersey number 73, is scheduled to report this afternoon. |
