FAVRE TO TIE LONGEVITY RECORD

On September 27, 1992, Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre took the field against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Lambeau Field and led the Packers to a 17-3 victory by completing 14 of 19 passes for 210 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions - all at the ripe old age of 22. It was his first career NFL start.

Seven years, three MVP awards, one Super Bowl title and a 30th birthday later, Favre is still starting for the Packers and has a string of starts that now stands at 115.

When he takes the field on Monday night at Lambeau Field against the Seattle Seahawks - and his former head coach Mike Holmgren - he will tie Ron Jaworski for most consecutive starts by a quarterback since 1970. Jaworski started 116 consecutive games for the Philadelphia Eagles from 1977-84.

"The one thing I learned early in my career is that the availability of the quarterback is absolutely imperative," said Jaworski. "I think that's one of the reasons the Packers have been so successful, because they know that Brett's going to line up there every week."

And that's what Favre has done - line up every week despite playing with an injured thumb for most of the 1999 season. "All I've ever done is just go out and play and do what I was asked to do," said Favre. "I come in, work out, watch film, go to practice and then play on Sundays."

"He's the perfect guy for the record," said Jaworski. "He typifies the way the position should be played. He's a fierce competitor, he plays a little crazy now and then, the guys on the team love him, he's a joker, he's a prankster, and he enjoys the game."

Adds Favre, "I look forward to it. I look forward to every one of those bits and pieces that make up being a football player."
