PACKERS WOMEN'S ASSOCIATION TO GIVE FAMILY A HOME FOR CHRISTMAS

A Green Bay family will receive perhaps the ultimate Christmas present Tuesday--a home of their own.
The fully-furnished home, located at 1343 East Walnut Street in Green Bay, will be presented to the family of Lupe DeLaCruz by the Packers Women's Association through its program, "Home from the Heart."
Green Bay Mayor Paul Jadin will be on hand to assist in the ribbon-cutting ceremony, scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
The project was founded, developed and directed by Kellie Harris, the wife of Packers middle linebacker Bernardo Harris.
Work on remodeling the home has been underway since last September. It is the largest Christmas gift ever presented to a family through the Salvation Army, which has committed to follow up on the home and family for two years to assure a foundation of stability.
Mrs. Harris, who graduated from college with a degree in urban redevelopment and planning, said she has long wanted to launch such a program. When she proposed it to Rhodesia Butler, president of the Packers Women's Association, the group enthusiastically adopted the project.
She said she hopes to expand the Home from the Heart program to other communities and that her husband plans to establish a foundation in his home state of North Carolina.
A number of local suppliers and contractors provided materials and labor to remodel the home. They include: Remodeling - Andrew Homes; furniture - WG&R, Interiors and Schauer & Schumacher; lighting - Northern Lights; exterior painting - Diamond Works; doors - Ver Halen Inc./Pella; Carpeting - Jobelius Floor Covering; vinyl - Christy's; window treatments - The Blind Shoppe; furnace - Milwaukee Stove/Ama Heating; interior decorating - Mary Vander Kelen; interior painting - Steve Boyer; Interior paint - Corrosion Control; home inspections - Van's Heating & Air Conditioning; legal services - Tim Pollack; dumpster - Van Handel Waste; Christmas tree - Kmart; Christmas gift certificates - ShopKo Stores.
