DEADLINE FOR PACKERS FAN HALL OF FAME NOMINATIONS EXTENDED TO JAN. 7
posted 12/29/99
In response to the many requests received for an extension, the deadline for nominating candidates for the Packers FAN Hall of Fame has been extended from December 31 to January 7, it was announced today.
Under rules established in 1998, when the program was jointly founded by the Green Bay Packers and the Packer Hall of Fame, fans are being asked to nominate themselves for the honor - or a relative or friend - in an essay of 500 words or less telling why they should be recognized. Each nomination should be accompanied by a photo or a 2-minute video.
The ten finalists who are considered to best represent the Packers and the spirit of the Packer Hall of Fame will be chosen in January by the Packers FAN Hall of Fame selection committee, comprised of members of the Green Bay Packers front office and the Packer Hall of Fame Board of Directors.
Packers fans, in turn, will be asked to vote on the ten finalists, whose stories will be profiled.
Fans can mail their nominations to: Green Bay Packers FAN Hall of Fame, P.O. Box 10628, Green Bay, Wis., 54307-0628, or drop them off at the Green Bay Packers' administrative offices (1265 Lombardi Avenue) or drop them off at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, 333 W. State Street, Milwaukee, Wis., 53201, or submit them online.
The fan receiving the most votes will become the second honorary fan to be installed in the Green Bay Packers FAN Hall of Fame.
In recognition of the honoree's selection - to be announced in February following the Super Bowl - the winner will receive four club seats to a Packers home game, at which he or she will be recognized on the Lambeau Field JumboTron; a $500 Packers Pro Shop gift certificate and a road trip for two to a 2000 Packers away game, including game tickets, air fare and hotel accommodation.
The honoree also will be introduced during the Packer Hall of Fame Induction Dinner and have his or her mane permanently displayed in a place of prominence in the Packer Hall of Fame.
The late Mel Knoke of Appleton, who attended all but a dozen Packers home games over a 71-year span, was honored as the first Packers FAN Hall of Fame selection in 1998.
