Running back Dorsey Levens of the Green Bay Packers is the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for games played the 17th week (January 2-3) of the 1999 season, the NFL announced today.

Levens rushed for 146 yards on 24 carries (a 6.1-yard average) and four touchdowns in the Packers' 49-24 win over the Arizona Cardinals. He also had three catches for 23 yards, bringing his yards from scrimmage total to 169.

Levens scored touchdowns in the second and third quarters, and two in the fourth. His first two scores gave the Packers 14-3 and 21-3 leads. Then, with the Packers and Carolina Panthers battling for the tiebreaker edge in net conference points, Levens scored two more touchdowns, including a one-yard run with 58 seconds remaining to ensure the Green Bay tiebreaker edge over Carolina.

In his sixth season out of Georgia Tech, this is Levens' first Player of the Week Award.

Levens joins kicker Ryan Longwell as the only Packers to be named as NFC Players of the Week this season. Longwell was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week in week 5 when he kicked four field goals against Tampa Bay.
