NFL FILMS uses the latest in computer-generated special effects and archival footage to create a mythical playoff tournament that pits pro football's four greatest dynasties over the last four decades against each other in The Matchup of the Millennium, premiering Monday, January 10 at 9:30 p.m. (CT) on ESPN2.

For four consecutive Mondays in January, ESPN2 will premiere a new episode of this groundbreaking, four-part series of one-hour fantasy playoff pairings in which the Packers of the 1960s, the Steelers of the 1970s, the 49ers of the 1980s and the Cowboys of the 1990s will battle to be the Team of the Ages.

In the first titanic tilt, Bill Walsh's 49ers travel to the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field to face Vince Lomardi's Packers on Monday, Jan. 10 at 9:30 p.m. (CT).

Then on Monday, Jan. 17 at 6:30 p.m. (CT), the Pittsburgh Steelers, winners of four Super Bowls during the 1970s, travel to "Big D" to square-off against the Dallas Cowboys.

The two winners will compete in the "Millennium Bowl." The game's first half airs Monday, January 24 at 6:30 p.m. (ET) and its finale airs Monday, January 31 at 7 p.m. (CT).

Using "Forrest Gump-esque" effects, NFL FILMS makes it appear as if the teams are playing against each other...Jerry Rice vs. Herb Adderley...Emmitt Smith vs. "Mean" Joe Greene...Joe Montana vs. Ray Nitschke...Deion Sanders vs. Lynn Swann.

The matchups and winners of each game were determined by using the statistics and computers of the Elias Sports Bureau.

ESPN's Joe Theismann and Mike Patrick will call the games, while NFL FILMS President Steve Sabol will provide historical insight. Plus, a broadcasting legend makes his return to the broadcasting booth - Howard Cosell.

The series also features "pre-game" interviews with Matchup of the Millennium participants, including: Jerry Rice, Bart Starr, Terry Bradshaw, Paul Hornung, Bill Walsh and Lynn Swann.

Encores will air Thursdays at 11:00 (CT) on ESPN starting January 13, 2000.
