LAMBEAU AGREEMENT REACHED

posted 03/31/00

Late Friday afternoon, the Green Bay Packers reached an agreement with state legislative leaders on a plan to redevelop Lambeau Field, the team's storied home of 43 years.

"We're delighted to be in this position," said club president Bob Harlan. "What this bill does for us, it keeps the Green Bay Packers viable for the next 25 to 30 plus years."

Harlan made the announcement in Madison alongside state representative John Gard, senate majority leader Chuck Chvala and senate minority leader Mary Panzer.

An agreement was reached between the team and legislators after days of marathon negotiations between the two parties. The Packers' compromise efforts were spearheaded by Harlan and John Jones, the team's senior vice president of administration.

The next step is for the Senate to vote on the proposal, hopefully sometime during the first week of April. Changes made in the previously passed Assembly bill also will have to ratified by that body, and Gov. Tommy Thompson would have to sign the final bill as well.
