JOHN DORSEY REJOINS PACKERS AS DIRECTOR OF COLLEGE SCOUTING

 | | John Dorsey |
John Dorsey, a former Packers player and previously a member of the team's player personnel department for eight years, has returned to the organization as director of college scouting, Executive Vice President/General Manager Ron Wolf announced today.
Dorsey rejoined the Packers today after resigning as director of player personnel for the Seattle Seahawks April 18. He had assumed the Seattle position January 26, 1999.
The 39-year-old Leonardtown, Md., native launched his career in player personnel in May of 1991, when he was hired by the Packers to scout linebackers. Retained by Wolf the following year, his scouting assignments subsequently have included the midlands, southwest and southeast regions and, in his last previous Green Bay role, responsibilities east of the Mississippi River.
During this span, Wolf promoted him to director of college scouting on February 27, 1997.
Earlier selected by Green Bay in the fourth round of the 1984 draft, Dorsey played five seasons for the Packers (1984-88) at linebacker and on special teams before spending a final year on injured reserve in 1989. He closed out his career with 130 total tackles, along with 2 fumble recoveries and 1 pass defensed. Dorsey led the Packers' special teams in solo tackles in three of his first four seasons, contributions which helped earn him selection as Green Bay's special teams captain. The possessor of a streak of 76 consecutive non-strike games played, he saw that skein end when he suffered a freak knee injury in pre-game warmups of the '89 season opener.
A four-year starter at the University of Connecticut as a collegian, Dorsey had been named 'Defensive Player of the Year' in the Yankee Conference during each of his last two collegiate seasons, also earning Division I-AA All-America recognition as a senior.
Deeply involved in the Green Bay community throughout his playing career, especially with the Wisconsin Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Dorsey was voted the Packers' 'Man of the Year' in 1987 for his civic contributions. Born August 31, 1960, Dorsey is the father of two sons, Bryant, 12, and Austin, 9.
CAMP DATES SET: The dates for the Packers' last two mini-camps, as well as for the opening of their 2000 training camp, were announced today by Head Coach Mike Sherman.
The team's third offseason mini-camp is set for May 16-19, with May 15 as a travel day, and the fourth mini-camp for June 5-9, with a weekend "break" June 10-11, and continuing June 12-14.
Sherman will launch his first training camp as Green Bay's head coach with the beginning of full squad two-a-day workouts Saturday, July 22.
Rookies and first-year players will be reporting four days earlier, July 18, and will take part in an afternoon practice July 19 as well as morning and afternoon workouts July 20. Thursday, July 20, will be the reporting day for veteran players. They will undergo physical testing on Friday, July 21, when no practice is scheduled.
