ANOTHER HISTORIC MOMENT FOR 'LAMBEAU:' FANS GET A CHANCE TO SEE GOV. THOMPSON SIGN RENOVATION BILL IN STADIUM SATURDAY AFTERNOON

Lambeau Field has been the site of many memorable moments in its 43-year annals, chief among them the legendary "Ice Bowl" victory of 1967.
But few, if any, more historic than the one set to take place on its hallowed turf Saturday.
Arrangements have been completed for Gov. Tommy Thompson to visit the venerable shrine and formally sign the Lambeau Field renovation bill into law during a public ceremony on the field, scheduled to be held at 2:30 p.m. The public is welcome.
Governor Thompson's signature will make possible a referendum - expected to be held September 12 - in which Brown County voters will be asked to support an 0.5 percent sales tax to fund $160 million in construction bonds or loans for the redevelopment of Lambeau Field.
The governor and Bob Harlan, Packers president and chief executive officer, also will speak briefly following the signing ceremony.
The event could well set an "attendance" record for a bill-signing by the governor, according to veteran political observers, who report that such a ceremony at the state capitol customarily attracts approximately 50 to 75 persons.
Because of the historical significance of the occasion, a limited number of commemorative pens will be presented to early arrivals as a souvenir of the event.
Parking will be free, as will admission to the Packer Hall of Fame from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., courtesy of the Packers, making for a family day atmosphere to celebrate the signing. Stadium concession stands also will be open for the sale of non-alcoholic beverages.
The Lombardi Avenue gate to the stadium parking lot will open at 11:30 and fans will be able to enter the stadium through Gate 26 at 1:30 and go onto the field, in itself a historic happening. Handicapped individuals also will have access through Gate 26 and be seated in the customary location in the northeast quadrant of the stadium.
The ceremony will be held, rain or shine. In the event of rain, it will be moved into the stadium's east concourse.
Jerry Parins, the Packers' corporate security officer, has asked that, "as a courtesy to fans who want to see the ceremony unobstructed - as well as for safety reasons - no signs be brought into the stadium." Personal cameras will be the only carry-ins permitted, he said.
