NFL TV 2000

NFL Press Release
posted 08/30/00

The NFL is the only sports league that televises all regular-season and postseason games on free, over-the-air network television.

The "new looks" of the NFL’s networks for the new season:
  • ABC’s NFL Monday Night Football will return to a three-man booth after last season’s two-announcer pairing. Joining play-by-play man Al Michaels as analysts are Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Fouts and comedian Dennis Miller.
  • ABC will also use two sideline reporters, with newcomers Eric Dickerson, also a Pro Football Hall of Famer, and Melissa Stark in those roles.
  • CBS’ The NFL Today moves to a new studio located near the corner of New York’s Central Park. The studio will be glass-enclosed to allow fans to view the pregame show. In addition, fans outside the studio will interact live with The NFL Today cast.
  • Joining The NFL Today cast is former New Orleans Saints and Chicago Bears head coach Mike Ditka. Also new to the CBS team is longtime play-by-play announcer Dick Enberg, who will be paired with Dan Dierdorf. In addition, recently retired Dallas Cowboys fullback Daryl Johnston is a new CBS game analyst.
  • ESPN’s Sunday Night Football moves from 8:15 to 8:30 PM ET. The move allows ESPN’s NFL Prime Time to expand from 45 minutes to the hour length it employed from 1985-98.
  • FOX’ NFL Sunday pregame show will once again take its program on the road for three or four Sundays this season. In addition, Pam Oliver permanently joins the Dick Stockton-Matt Millen game broadcast team as a sideline reporter.
