NORTHWESTERN'S KOSEY AND GILLETT'S FRAMKE HONORED AS PACKERS HIGH SCHOOL COACH OF THE WEEK
posted 10/26/00
Ray Kosey, head coach of the Northwestern High School Tigers, and Mike Framke of the Gillett High School Tigers have been named as the respective eighth- and ninth-week recipients of the Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week award, the Packers announced today.
By defeating Spooner High School 38-6, Kosey's squad jumped to a perfect 8-0 record. In the process, Northwestern earned their tenth consecutive playoff birth.
Now in his fourth year as head coach, Kosey has posted a career record of 34-9. The Tigers have won three out of four Heart of the North conference titles during his tenure, and he has been named District II Coach of the Year twice in that span.
After graduating from Ontonagan (Mich.) High School, Kosey went on to play football and baseball for Brainerd (Minn.) Community College and the University of Wisconsin-Superior. Now employed as a teacher at Northwestern, he also serves as the school's SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) advisor.
Framke, in his first year as Gillett's head coach, led his Tigers to last week's 40-0 victory over the Suring Eagles. The shutout resulted in a 6-3 record and the team's first playoff appearance in school history.
The Preble High School and University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh graduate spent a total of 11 years as an assistant with Manitowoc Roncalli High School and Green Bay Southwest High School before taking over at Gillett. In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Framke teaches at Red Smith and Washington middle schools in Green Bay.
As a Coach of the Week winners, Kosey and Framke, the final recipients of the Coach of the Week award, will be awarded several items and privileges, including a $500 donation to the school's football program from NFL Charities and 'Play Football' T-shirts for coaches and players.
Nominations are now being accepted for Packers High School Coach of the Year. Recommendations should be submitted to Sherry Schuldes, the Packers' director of family programs, at SchuldesS@packers.com SchuldesS@packers.com
(email) or 920/496-5712 (fax). Please include the nominee's name, address, school, phone number and reason he/she is deserving of the award.
