The Green Bay Packers have re-signed veteran offensive tackle Barry Stokes, Executive Vice President/General Manager Ron Wolf announced today.

Stokes, a third-year professional, fills the roster vacancy created when offensive guard Raleigh McKenzie was placed on waivers October 17.

It is the fourth hitch in a Green Bay uniform for the 26-year-old Eastern Michigan University alumnus, who most recently had appeared in four regular season games before being waived on September 27. He had signed on as a free agent July 22, following his July 20 release by the Oakland Raiders.

Stokes initially had joined the Packers September 8, 1999, after his released by the Miami Dolphins. Inactive for two league games before being placed on waivers September 22, he was re-signed October 20. Later released November 10 after being inactive for three additional games, he signed with Oakland December 29, 1999.

Originally signed by Detroit as an undrafted free agent in 1996, Stokes had seen service with the Lions, the Atlanta Falcons, the St. Louis Rams and the Dolphins before signing on with the Packers for the first time.

The Stokes resume also includes three seasons in the NFL Europe League - with the Rhein Fire in 1997 and with the Scottish Claymores in 1998 and 1999.

Reassigned jersey number 79, he joined the Packers on the practice field today.
