The Green Bay Packers have placed rookie running back Herbert "Whisper" Goodman on waivers, Executive Vice President/General Manager Ron Wolf announced today.

Goodman, a Graceland (Iowa) University alumnus signed as a free agent April 20, 2000, had played in five of the Packers' seven games to date. He averaged a team-leading 32.3 yards on kickoff returns (4 for 132 yards), had three rushing attempts for a minus-2 yards and made one pass reception for no yards.

The 5-11, 203-pound Miami native had been the Packers' leading rusher in the preseason, gaining 198 yards in 40 attempts, a 5.0-yard average, and scoring 2 touchdowns. His production included a 56-yard scoring run against the Dolphins in a preseason game August 21.

As a collegian, Goodman led NAIA Division II in yards per carry with a 6.89-yard average (1,399 yards on 203 carries) and scoring (15.0 points per game) during his senior year.
