PACKERS SIGN RUNNING BACK DE'MOND PARKER TO ACTIVE ROSTER
posted 10/31/00
 | | De'Mond Parker |
The Green Bay Packers have removed running back De'Mond Parker from the physically unable to perform list and signed him to the team's 53-player active roster, Executive Vice President/General Manager Ron Wolf announced today.
Parker, a second-year professional, fills the roster vacancy created when rookie running back Herbert "Whisper" Goodman was waived on Friday (October 27).
In the rehabilitation process since undergoing knee surgery for repair of an anterior cruciate ligament torn in a game at Tampa December 26, 1999, Parker had been placed on the physically unable to perform list August 22 during the team's league-mandated roster reduction to 65 players.
As a rookie last season, the 23-year-old University of Oklahoma alumnus had emerged as the Packers' second-leading rusher with 184 yards in 36 attempts, a 5.1-yard average, and 2 touchdowns, and also caught 4 passes for 15 yards. He amassed 113 of his rushing yards (in 19 attempts) in pacing a 188-yard ground game during the Packers' 35-19 victory over the Bears at Chicago December 5.
Also a contributor on special teams, the 5-10, 185-pound Tulsa native returned 15 kickoffs for 268 yards, a 17.9-yard average, and made 6 tackles on kick coverage, 5 of them unassisted. He also recovered a fumble.
Parker will wear jersey number 22.
