PACKERS PUT SANTANA DOTSON ON I.R., ELEVATE GOODMAN TO ACTIVE ROSTER

The Green Bay Packers have placed defensive tackle Santana Dotson on injured reserve and elevated running back Herbert "Whisper" Goodman from the practice squad to replace him on the active roster, Executive Vice President/General Manager Ron Wolf announced today.
Dotson suffered a season-ending knee injury in Monday night's game at Carolina and is scheduled to undergo surgery to repair a partial tear of the right quadriceps tendon.
Goodman, a rookie who was signed to the practice squad November 1, had played in five of the Packers' first seven regular-season games before being waived October 27. He had averaged a team-leading 32.3 yards on kickoff returns (4 for 132 yards), had three rushing attempts for a minus-2 yards and made one pass reception for no yards.
The 5-11, 203-pound Miami, Fla., native, who led NAIA Division II in rushing average as a senior at Graceland (Iowa) University in 1999 (6.89 yards per attempt), had been the Packers' leading rusher in the preseason, gaining 198 yards on 40 carries, a 5.0-yard average, and scoring 2 touchdowns. His production included a 56-yard touchdown run against the Miami Dolphins in the Packers' third preseason game August 21.
Goodman will continue to wear jersey number 29.
Wolf also announced that, in another transaction, the Packers have signed tight end Jason Gavadza to the practice squad. The 6-3, 248-pound Gavadza, a sixth-round selection of the Pittsburgh Steelers out of Kent (Ohio) University in the 2000 NFL draft, most recently had been a member of the Carolina Panthers.
Placed on waivers by Pittsburgh August 21, he signed on with Tennessee August 22, was waived August 28 and then signed to the Titans' practice squad August 29. Waived by Tennessee October 31, he was signed to the Carolina Panthers' active roster October 31 and was inactive for three games prior to being released November 21.
The leading receiving tight end in Kent's history, Gavadza closed out his collegiate career with 86 receptions for 1,312 yards and 13 touchdowns. He was an All-Mid American Conference selection as a senior in 1999, when he caught 47 passes for 654 yards and 7 touchdowns.
The newcomer has been assigned jersey number 46.
