FAVRE EARNS NFL.COM ALL-HEART PLAYER OF WEEK AWARD

Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre has been named NFL.com All-Heart Player of the Week for his role in Green Bay's 26-24 Week 12 win over Indianapolis. Favre edged out Darrell Green of the Washington Redskins by 700 votes in fan voting on NFL.com. This marks the first time Favre captured the honor this year. Teammate Antonio Freeman won the award in Week Ten against the Minnesota Vikings.
As the NFL.com All-Heart Player of the Week, Favre joins Joe Montana and Bill Parcells on the NFL Cholesterol Screen Team, a program initiated by the NFL, in partnership with Merck & Co., Inc., to alert NFL fans to the dangers of high cholesterol and heart disease. To recognize Favre's 'all heart' performance, the NFL and Merck will provide 250 free cholesterol screenings to Bellin Hospital in Green Bay, as a service to NFL fans living in Green Bay. High cholesterol is one of the leading risk factors for heart disease, the number one killer of men and women in the United States.
After Favre left last week's game in Tampa due to a sprained left ankle, he returned with a vengeance Sunday passing for 301 yards in the snow as Green Bay held off a furious Indianapolis rally, 26-24. With the victory Sunday, Favre improved his record to 25-0 when the temperature is 34 degrees or below. The three-time league MVP practiced Thursday and Friday, but was limping noticeably and listed as questionable on the team's injury report. He threw touchdown passes of 1-yard to Tyrone Davis and 17-yards to Antonio Freeman.
The NFL.com All-Heart Player of the Week Award is the only weekly award sanctioned by the NFL that is voted on by the fans. The award is presented each Thursday to the NFL player who displays the most 'heart' during the previous weekend's games. Fans who vote at NFL.com each week between Tuesday and Thursday are automatically entered into a sweepstakes that will send one lucky winner and a guest to Super Bowl XXXV in Tampa, Florida. Twenty-five second-prize winners will be awarded a Hall of Fame edition football autographed by Montana. The sweepstakes ends Dec. 28, 2000. No purchase necessary. Must be 18 or older to enter.
