posted 12/21/00
The Green Bay Packers have signed free agent safety Warner Herndon to the practice squad, Executive Vice President/General Manager Ron Wolf announced today.
Herndon, 6-1 1/2 and 210 pounds, was signed by Seattle as an undrafted free agent out of Morgan State on April 24, 2000. After completing training camp and the preseason with the Seahawks, he was placed on waivers in the team's final cutdown for the regular season August 27.
The 22-year-old Sacramento, Calif., native had finished as the second-leading tackler on Morgan State's defense each of his last two collegiate seasons, registering 61 stops in 1999, including 48 solos and 5 tackles for loss. He also posted a team-high 13 pass breakups.
A year earlier, Herndon led the Bears with three interceptions and scored three defensive touchdowns, returning two interceptions for scores and recovering an end zone fumble for the third touchdown.
The newcomer has been assigned jersey number 39.
