DePERE'S GREG RABAS NAMED GREEN BAY PACKERS HIGH SCHOOL COACH OF THE YEAR

posted 12/23/00

Greg Rabas, head coach of the DePere High School Redbirds, has been named the recipient of the Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Year award, the Packers announced today.

In his third season as head coach, Rabas led the Redbirds to a tie for the Bay Conference Championship and a 9-2 overall record, including playoffs, where DePere advanced to the second round of the state tournament.

The Kewaunee native spent five years as an assistant before taking over as head coach.

Rabas played tight end for the University of Nebraska before transferring to the University of Wisconsin-Madison to finish his college career and graduate with a degree in science. In addition to his coaching responsibilities, he now is a patrol sergeant for the Brown County Sheriff's department. Married to Janice, the couple has two children - daughter Jessica and son Michael, who both attend DePere High School.

The Packers will honor Rabas during Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, presenting the coach with a $1,000 donation to the DePere football program and 'Play Football' T-shirts for the players and coaching staff.
