PACKERS RE-SIGN LONG SNAPPER ROB DAVIS TO MULTI-YEAR CONTRACT

The Green Bay Packers have re-signed veteran long snapper Rob Davis to a multi-year contract, Andrew Brandt, the team's director of player finance, announced today.
Davis, a 5-year professional, had become an unrestricted free agent March 2.
The 32-year-old Washington, D.C. native has been the long snapper for all Packers punts and placements for the past four years. In the process, he last season worked with his fourth different punter - Josh Bidwell - over that span, following Craig Hentrich in 1997, Sean Landeta in 1998 and Louie Aguiar in 1999.
Davis also has had four different holders for placements over the same period - Hentrich in 1997, Doug Pederson and Mike Prior in 1998 and Matt Hasselbeck in 1999 and 2000.
In addition to long-snapping in all 16 games last season, Davis also contributed 3 tackles and one fumble recovery on special teams. The latter, a recovery of a fumbled punt - muffed by David Palmer of the Vikings, came in the fourth quarter of the Packers' 26-20, overtime win over Minnesota on November 6.
Described by Special Teams Coach Frank Novak "as a great leader on our special teams" and the possessor of "a great work ethic," the 6-3, 286-pound Davis also has developed into an outstanding blocker.
The only Shippensburg University alumnus to thus far have played in the National Football League, Davis officially launched his pro career with the Packers' immemorial enemies, the Chicago Bears, in 1996. He joined the Packers in 1997, signing on as a free agent November 4 after Green Bay's punt snapper, Paul Frase, was sidelined by a back injury.
Davis, who had been a four-year starter at defensive tackle as a collegian, had toiled for three years to make an NFL roster before landing a berth with the Bears, spending two training camps with the New York Jets (1993-94) a year in the Canadian Football League with the Baltimore Stallions (1995) and a preseason with Kansas City (1996) before attaining his goal.
In another transaction, the Packers have signed defensive tackle Carl Bradley as a free agent. Bradley, 6-1 and 288 pounds, out of Virginia Tech, originally was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a free agent on April 21, 2000. Waived in the Buccaneers' final roster cutdown for the regular season, he briefly was a member of the team's practice squad before being released September 5. Bradley later was signed to the Detroit Lions' practice squad November 27, remaining there until his contract expired January 2, 2001.
A four-year letterman as a collegian, Bradley holds school records for the best 40-yard dash time by a defensive tackle, 4.64 seconds, and best vertical jump, 35-1/2 inches.
The Packers also have released wide receiver Rodney Williams, who had been signed as a free agent March 9.
