NFL PRESEASON NATIONAL TV SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED

NFL Press Release
posted 03/28/01

An 11-game preseason national television schedule featuring rematches of two recent Super Bowls and an American Bowl in Mexico City was announced today by the National Football League.

ABC-TV kicks off the schedule with the annual Pro Football Hall of Fame Game on Monday night, August 6 between the Miami Dolphins and St. Louis Rams at 8:00 PM ET.

The game will be the conclusion to a weekend in which two former Rams (Jackie Slater and Jack Youngblood) and a former Dolphin (Nick Buoniconti) along with Marv Levy, Mike Munchak, Lynn Swann and Ron Yary are inducted into the Hall of Fame.

In the second full preseason week, the first of two recent Super Bowl rematches on national TV will take place when the Tennessee Titans visit the Rams on Friday night, August 17 on FOX-TV at 8:00 PM ET. The Rams defeated the Titans 23-16 in Super Bowl XXXIV in one of the NFL's most exciting title games ever.

That same weekend, on Monday night, August 20, the Denver Broncos will travel to Green Bay to take on the Packers on ABC-TV at 8:00 PM ET. Denver topped Green Bay 35-24 in Super Bowl XXXII, the first of two consecutive Super Bowl triumphs for the Broncos.

In the third preseason week, the NFL returns to one of its international hotbeds when the Dallas Cowboys meet the Oakland Raiders in an American Bowl game in Mexico City, Mexico on Monday night, August 27 on ABC-TV at 8:00 PM ET. It will be the fifth American Bowl in Mexico City, one of which drew the largest attendance in NFL history for any game - 112,376 in 1994 when the Cowboys played Houston.

The preseason national television schedule concludes on Friday, August 31 on ESPN (8:00 PM ET) when the Rams host the cross-state-rival Kansas City Chiefs, whose new head coach, Dick Vermeil, led St. Louis to its Super Bowl XXXIV championship.
