CEREMONIAL GROUNDBREAKING FOR LAMBEAU FIELD REDEVELOPMENT TO TAKE PLACE SATURDAY, MAY 19, 2001
posted 04/04/01
The Green Bay Packers announced today that a ceremonial groundbreaking celebration for the Lambeau Field Redevelopment Project will take place on Saturday, May 19, 2001. Activities will begin at 8:30 a.m., with the groundbreaking ceremony taking place at 10:30 a.m., followed by a community tailgate party.
"When construction got underway in January, it would have been very difficult to hold a groundbreaking at that time," said Packers President Bob Harlan. "We wanted this to be a community and family celebration, so we decided to wait until the weather was nicer."
The event will feature:
- A "world record-breaking" charitable fundraiser. (Details of this event will be announced in the coming weeks.)
- Live musical entertainment by two area high school bands. (The participating bands will be announced at a later date.)
- A groundbreaking ceremony involving local charities, fans, celebrities, and area children.
- A post-groundbreaking tailgate party.
"We're still working on finalizing the plans and arrangements," said Stu Zadra, of the Hammes Company, project director for Lambeau Redevelopment. "We'll release additional information as it becomes available. Right now, we simply want to make sure that people mark their calendars for this day."
