| PACKERS FOUNDATION AWARDS $150,000 IN GRANTS - 70% TO BROWN COUNTY
posted 04/25/01 The Green Bay Packers Foundation has awarded a record $150,000 in grants to 40 civic and charitable groups and organizations throughout the state of Wisconsin in its annual distribution of funds, Carl Kuehne, chairman of the Foundation Committee, announced today. The grants awarded include a first-time contribution to the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation for the City Stadium Memorial, a project designed to pay permanent tribute to the long-time former home of the Packers. The team played its games at the East Side stadium for 32 seasons (1925-56), winning its first six National Football League championships during that span. They also include 24 additional grants to Brown County organizations, among them the Brown County Library, which has been an annual recipient since the Foundation made its initial awards in 1988, and 15 to other groups around the state. The grants to Brown County groups represent 70 percent of the total disbursements. With the latest disbursements, the Foundation has distributed a total of $886,676 for charitable purposes since it was established in 1986 by Judge Robert J. Parins, then president of the Packers Corporation, "as a vehicle to assure continued contributions to charity." In addition to Mr. Kuehne, the Green Bay Packers Foundation Committee includes Dr. Donald Harden, Mike Reese, Gary Rotherham and Pat LaViolette. Phil Pionek is secretary of the Foundation.
