THREE PACKERS START NFL EUROPE'S OPENING WEEKEND; LB LONDON DUNLAP NAMED NFLEL SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

posted 04/26/01

Playing in NFL Europe allows young NFL players to gain game experience and more repititions and three Green Bay Packers are taking advantage of every minute.

Green Bay Packers-allocated linebacker London Dunlap, a starter for the Scottish Claymores in their 24-21 victory over Frankfurt, was awarded NFL Europe League 'Special Teams Player of the Week' honors for Week 1. The Claymores starter led his team to two touchdowns, had one pass defensed and four tackles.

Dunlap tackled Galaxy punter Andrew Bayes at the Frankfurt six-yard line as he attempted to punt on the Galaxy's opening drive, setting up the Claymores' opening touchdown. In the third quarter he then recovered a blocked Bayes punt in the end zone for a touchdown that earned the Claymores a 24-7 lead. This week, the Claymores (1-0) will travel to Amsterdam(0-1) on Saturday.

Starting for the Rhein Fire was tight end Adam Newman in their 24-20 victory over the Amsterdam Admirals. Barcelona (1-0) will host the Fire (1-0) on Saturday.

Wide receiver Kenny Coutain, a starter for the Berlin Thunder, had one reception for seven yards in their 21-14 loss to the Barcelona Dragons. Berlin (0-1) will travel to Frankfurt to take on the Galaxy (0-1) to decide the first win for the season for one of the teams.
