RHEIN FIRE AND SCOTTISH CLAYMORES STILL IN THE RUNNING FOR WORLD BOWL IX; THREE WEEKS TO GO IN THE 2001 NFL EUROPE SEASON

posted 06/05/01

As NFL Europe enters its eighth week of league play, the Barcelona Dragons (6-1) are all but in. The Berlin Thunder and the Amsterdam Admirals are tied for 2nd place with a 4-3 record, but don't count out the Rhein Fire and the Scottish Claymores, either. A win for both teams will give them a better shot at making an appearance in World Bowl 2001.

The Rhein Fire (3-4) lost a heartbreaker in overtime to Amsterdam (4-3) last Saturday when the Admirals kicked a field goal as time expired, giving them the 17-14 victory. Green Bay Packers allocated tight end Adam Newman started in the loss to Amsterdam last weekend. The Fire will try to improve their record to 4-3 when they do battle with the Berlin Thunder on FOX-TV this Saturday.

Defensive end London Dunlap posted one tackle for the Scottish Claymores in their loss to Berlin. The Claymores will take on the Dragons this Saturday in Glasgow, Scotland.

The Berlin Thunder's Kenny Coutain was inactive in Week 7 due to a neck injury. The Thunder will travel to D‡sseldorf, Germany to take on the Fire Saturday.

Safety Gana Joseph was inactive in the Admirals contest versus Scotland. Amsterdam (4-3) will travel to Frankfurt (1-6) this Saturday.
