DEE GEURTS-BENGTSON NAMED DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL EVENTS FOR PACKERS

posted 06/13/01

Dee Geurts-Bengtson, vice president of the Green Bay Area Visitor and Convention Bureau and the possessor of a 20-year, award-winning background in the tourism industry, has been named to a new position as director of special events for the Green Bay Packers, President & CEO Bob Harlan announced today.

"Dee Geurts-Bengtson is a wonderful addition to our organization," Harlan said, "and a vitally important one. Her extensive background, her impressive achievements and her outstanding reputation in her profession are very important to us - now that we are going to be open 365 days a year when the redevelopment of Lambeau Field is completed and she will be responsible for booking events into the Atrium and the stadium club.

"In the process of filling the position, I might add, we have heard nothing but praise and commendation for Dee from the local business community, for her multiple and productive efforts on behalf of the Visitor & Convention Bureau over the years."

Mrs. Geurts-Bengtson, who has held her VCB position since August of 1981, said, "I'm obviously thrilled to be in the Packer organization. I'm thrilled because I will still be in the tourism industry, promoting Green Bay and the finest attraction in the country."

The recipient of several significant awards from her peers over the past decade, she was twice-honored in 1991, being named "Green Bay's Management Woman of the Year" and also "Supplier of the Year" for Meeting Planners International.

More recently, in 1999, she was presented with the Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce "Athena Award" for contributions to the local business community.

Mrs. Geurts-Bengtson also headed up the marketing committee for the successful 1999 campaign which culminated in Green Bay's being named one of the nation's 10 "All-American Cities."

A graduate of St. Joseph Academy, she will be receiving a degree in management and communications from Milwaukee's Concordia University in December.

The wife of Jay Bengtson and the daughter-in-law of late former Packers head coach Phil Bengtson, Dee is the mother of three sons - Kevin Crerand, 26, and Phil and Robert Bengtson, 8 and 5, respectively.

She will assume her Packers duties Monday, July 16.
