The Green Bay Packers have signed University of Wisconsin offensive guard Bill Ferrario, their fourth-round selection in this year's National Football League draft, to a multi-year contract, Andrew Brandt, the team's director of player finance, announced today.

The 6-2, 315-pound Ferrario, a highly durable, four-year starter for the Badgers, never missed a game over his collegiate career and ended it with 50 consecutive starting assignments at left guard. The 22-year-old Scranton, Pa., native thus joined former teammate Chris McIntosh (Seahawks) and the University of Michigan's Jon Jansen (Redskins) as the only players in Big Ten Conference history to start at least 50 games.

A two-time all-conference selection, he helped Wisconsin win back-to-back Rose Bowl championships following the 1998 and 1999 seasons - when he was a teammate of current and fellow Packer Mark Tauscher - and played a role in the Badgers twice leading the Big Ten in rushing as the Badgers totaled nearly six miles over his four seasons on the field.

En route, Ferrario blocked for four straight 1,000-yard rushing seasons - three by Ron Dayne (Giants) and one by Michael Bennett (Vikings) - becoming the first player in UW history to do so.

Ferrario is the second of the Packers' six 2001 draft selections to be signed, joining tight end David Martin of Tennessee, the team's sixth-round pick.

In another transaction, offensive tackle Scott Curry was waived/failed physical.
