posted 07/27/01

The Green Bay Packers have re-signed wide receiver Junior Lord as a free agent, Andrew Brandt, the team's director of player finance, announced today.

Lord, 6-1 and 199 pounds, previously had been signed to a Green Bay contract on July 7, 2000, and remained on the active roster until the final cutdown for the regular season August 27.

After leaving the Packers, the 25-year-old Guilford College alumnus played in 5 games for the Orlando Predators of the Arena Football League, catching 24 passes for 383 yards (a 16.0-yard average) and 4 touchdowns. He then went on to play for the Chicago Enforcers of the XFL during its 2001 season, snaring 20 passes for 301 yards, a 15.0-yard average, with a long of 46 yards.

Prior to joining the Packers in 2000, Lord had played for the Amsterdam Admirals of the NFL Europe League, closing out the NFLEL's 2000 season as the Admirals' No. 3 receiver with 24 catches for 247 yards (a 10.3-yard avg.) and no touchdowns.

Originally signed by the Washington Redskins as a rookie free agent on April 26, 1998, Lord was waived August 25 and later signed to the Washington practice squad, where he spent the bulk of the '98 regular season. Subsequently signed to the Redskins' active roster January 4, 1999, he was waived July 26, re-signed July 29 and terminated August 31. He later was signed to the Pittsburgh Steelers' practice squad October 6, 1999, and released November 16, 1999, spending the remainder of the season out of football.

A four-time all-Old Dominion Athletic Conference selection at Guilford, Lord enjoyed a highly productive collegiate career, amassing 201 receptions for 3,089 yards and 33 touchdowns.

The newcomer, who will join the Packers on the practice field Saturday morning, has been assigned jersey number 19.
