McBride to sing the National Anthem Monday
posted 09/22/01
Country music star Martina McBride will honor America by singing the national anthem before the start of ABC-TV's Monday Night Football. The game between Green Bay and Washington will feature the artist's rendition of the anthem as part of the live game coverage just before kickoff.
Named 'Female Vocalist of the Year' at the 1999 Country Music Awards, McBride has one Gold album, three Platinum CDs and one Triple Platinum collection demonstrating her extraordinary talents. Her most popular songs include "Wild Angels," "Wrong Again," and "A Broken Wing." The song "I Love You" from the Runaway Bride movie soundtrack topped the singles charts in 1999. McBride will follow up her performance on Monday night with an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Tuesday.
During the anthem rendition, over 150 area policemen and firefighters will unfurl a large American flag over the field. Wisconsin Governor Scott McCallum will also participate in holding the flag during the ceremony.
