PACKERS RE-SIGN CORNERBACK HURLEY TARVER TO PRACTICE SQUAD

posted 11/28/01

The Green Bay Packers have re-signed cornerback Hurley Tarver to the team's practice squad, GM/Head Coach Mike Sherman announced today.

Tarver fills the vacancy created Tuesday when the Detroit Lions signed defensive end Anthony Herron from the Packers' practice squad to the Lions' 53-player active roster.

For the 6-0, 180-pound Tarver, it is the fifth time around with the Packers. Tarver, who will turn 26 on Friday, originally had been signed to a Green Bay contract April 20, after playing for the Las Vegas Outlaws of the XFL, and subsequently was waived June 11. He then was re-signed to the active roster August 23, waived September 3, and signed to the practice squad September 4. Tarver later was terminated from the practice squad September 26. Re-signed to the practice squad October 9, he was terminated from the practice squad October 19.

In the overall process, the Central Oklahoma alumnus played in Packers' last two preseason games (against Miami August 25 and Oakland August 31) and made 6 tackles, 4 of them unassisted.

Tarver has been re-assigned jersey number 47.
